Purpose: To promote the civic interests and community welfare of Ravensworth Farm and participate in civic matters in Fairfax County.

Publications:

  • Newsletter: Published the Ravensworth Farmer, September through May, which is delivered free to every home in the Community. 
  • Directory: Publishes the community directory, yearly, available to residents who join the Civic Association. 

Community:

  • Welcome: Provides a welcome packet of material to new neighbors. 
  • Acknowledgements: Acknowledges births, deaths, and illnesses in the community in an appropriate manner (plants, flowers, contributions to charitable organizations, for instance). 
  • Holiday Decorations: Gives recognition to residents whose homes are especially well decorated during the winter holiday season. 
  • Scouts: Contributes to Boy Scout Troop 991 and Cub Scout Pack 991, who deliver the Farmer. 
  • Maintenance: Maintains the Queensberry and Inverchapel entrances to the community and the strip along Braddock Road between them. This involves planting, moving, mulching and trash pick-up, for instance. 
  • Neighborhood Watch: Sponsors and equips a Neighborhood Watch Committee which maintains a year-round security patrol.

Programs

  • Speakers: Provides informative programs with guest speakers three times a year (October, March, and May). 
  • Yard Sale: Sponsors a community yard sale each spring at the pool, providing space and publicity at no cost to residents. 
  • Community Cleanup Day: Arranges a day in March when large trash items will be picked up. Just take them to the school at the time announced in the Farmer.

Representation

  • Represents the community before government bodies and agencies. 
  • Participates in the Braddock District Association of Citizens Associations and the Fairfax County Federation of Citizens Associations. 

HOW IT FUNCTIONS

  • Executive Committee meetings are held monthly, September to May at the school, dates and times are published in the Farmer. This is where the real work gets done and where community news gets passed around. Come join us and see if this work is for you! 
  • Official business of the Association (such as ratifying the budget) is done in three meetings a year (October, March, and May). Meetings are held at the Ravensworth Elementary School. 
  • Officers are elected by the membership in the spring. Committee chairmen are appointed by the president.
